Barreiro
Elevated to town in the XVI century, the initial nucleus of the town of Barreiro was formed by several fishermen from the Algarve, who settled here and worked in the port of Lisbon, known as "barreiros".
In the. XVIII-XIX, the locality was developed a lot, because of the establishment of the railroad terminal of the line of South and Southeastern Railways, becoming a busy place that attracted the settlement of populations and many industries. The town of Barreiro continued to grow, having been elevated to the category of city in 1984.
