Accessibility
REGULATORY CONTEXT
The European Union has established standards to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, notably Directive 2019/882, the European Accessibility Act, also known as the European Accessibility Act (EAA).
The Directive was transposed in Portugal by Decree-Law 82/2022 and Ordinance 220/2023 and introduces common accessibility requirements for digital products and services, such as websites, mobile applications, banking, and payment services. As of June 28, 2025, these obligations also apply to large companies such as DRIVALIA, which must ensure an accessible digital experience for all users, including people with disabilities.
The EAA applies to a wide range of products and services, including:
-
websites and mobile applications;
-
banking and digital payment services;
-
transportation services, e-commerce, and digital platforms
Regarding technical requirements, websites or applications are considered accessible if the following are guaranteed:
-
the usability of the service content by the user;
-
the usability of the information offered, characterized by:
-
-
Ease and simplicity of use, ensuring, among other things, that the actions to be performed to obtain services and information are always consistent;
-
Efficiency of use, ensuring, among other things, the separation between content, presentation, and interface operation, as well as the possibility of making information available through different sensory channels;
-
Effectiveness of use and correspondence to user needs, ensuring, among other things, that the actions to be performed to correctly obtain services and information are independent of the device used for access;
-
User satisfaction, ensuring, among other things, access to the service and information without inconvenience or unjustified restrictions for the user.
-
In its most recent formulation, the application of this law was extended to several categories, including large companies, including DRIVALIA. Accessibility Statements are available on this page.
